A good day has come to an end

The Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon took place for the 36th time in great weather today. Registered participants where 14.667 in all age groups. Registration record was broken in the 10 k Race with 7.203 participants and in the 3 k FunRun as well where registered participants where 2436.

The winners in the marathon this year where Arnar Pétursson in men's and Barbora Nováková from the Czech Republic. The Marathon race is also the Icelandic Championship in marathon running. Arnar Pétursson and Hólmfríður J. Aðalsteinsdóttir come on top. Hlynur Andrésson was the first male and Alexandra Niles from the USA was the first women to finish in the half marathon race. In the 10 k race, Hlynur Ólason from Iceland was the first man and Katerina Kratochvilova from the Czech Republic was the first woman. Total results can be found here.

A record breaking amount of donations has been collected already at hlaupastyrkur.is and charity donation can still be made. The last chance to make a donation will be at midnight on Monday, August 26th.

The Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon is organized by Reykjavik Sports Union, a union of sports clubs in Reykjavik. Other events organized by the Reykjavik Sports Union are: Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July, Suzuki Midnight Sun Run in June, Reykjavik International Games in January and the Northern Lights Run in February.
