There were 116 charities that took part this year and raised a total of ISK 48,482,519, which is a great achievement considering that no official race took place for the second year in a row.

Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon did not take place in 2021, the race had been postponed in the hope of being able to hold the race in this Covid-19 situation.

The fact that the fundraising is very important to the charities, the focus was on the fundraising, charities and runners were encouraged to run and collect for their charity.

The total amount of donations that have been collected in connection with the Islandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon since the collection of donations began in 2006 has now reached almost ISK 1,113 million.

Fannar Guðmundsson collected the most of all individuals, ISK 3,360,500 for the Hringur Children's Hospital Fund. Fannar also received the most pledges, which were 543 in number. Íris Angela Jóhannesdóttir collected the next most, ISK 1,202,000 for our Hero Guðni. In third place among individuals was Sunna Valdís Sigurðardóttir who collected ISK 845,400 and ran for the AHC Association. The running group that collected the most was Eyjólfsbörn, they collected ISK 806,000, next were the employees of Hagaskóli who collected ISK 389,500. The companies that get the most this year are the Píeta association and the Hringur Children's Hospital fund get ISK 4.8 million each and Ljósið get ISK 4.3 million.

All donations received go directly to the charities. Íslandsbanki pays all the costs of the collection.

The pledges were paid to the charities in early December.

In the past few months, the Reykjavik Sport Union has been organising the Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon according to guidelines from the national authorities. Unfortunately, recent changes have made it impossible for us to go forward with this event, which was supposed to happen the 22nd of August, and fulfil the most resent requirements of the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management which went into effect on the 31st of July.

All participants have to pick up their race packet for the 2019 Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon on Thursday or Friday. The location is Laugardalshöll Sports Hall, Engjavegur 8, Reykjavik. All participants in the 2019 Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon will get a bib number that has to be fastened to the front of their t-shirt. Safety pins are provided with the bib. There will be timing in marathon, half marathon, 10 km race and 3 km fun run. The timing chip is built into the bib number in these distances.

This year significant changes have been made to the full marathon course which should make the experience more enjoyable for both participants and those who want to cheer them on.

In the 2019 Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon participants can choose between five different distances. Two of those are FunRuns, 600 m and 3 km.

This years finishers medal was published today. The new medal has Perlan (the Pearl) in its foreground. Perlan is a know landmark in Reykjavik that the marathon runners can see when running the race.

The Reykjavik Marathon has taken place every year since 1984 in downtown Reykjavik. The race takes place on Saturday August 18th or the Saturday following the 18th, as the case may be. That date is the anniversary of Reykjavik City. Reykjavik Culture Night (Menningarnótt) takes place in Reykjavik on the same day. 

This year the Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon runners collected 156.926.358 ISK to 175 charity organizations at the website hlaupastyrkur.is. This is 32% higher amount than collected last year.

Marathon and half marathon runners can get a special marathon deal that includes a race course inspection tour on Thursday, August 16th and massage at the finish line on Saturday, August 18th for 7.900 ISK. The race course inspection tour starts at the EXPO at 20:00 and should take about 90 minutes. The bus will be located in front of the EXPO entrance and has Reykjavik Excursions logo on it.
