There was a fantastic turnout for the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon, which took place last Saturday. The weather alternated between sunshine and showers, although mostly showers, but the happy runners refused to let the rain dampen their spirits. More than 16,000 participants were registered, including over 3,000 international runners from more than 90 different countries. There was an incredible atmosphere in downtown Reykjavík, with spectators enthusiastically cheering on the tired runners as they crossed the finish line.
In the women’s marathon, Marion Tibar from Estonia took the victory with a time of 02:57:49 — an absolutely fantastic performance. Annette Leistad from Norway finished second, while Megan Rose Seibel from the United States came third. The fastest Icelandic woman in the marathon was Kristjana Pálsdóttir, with a time of 03:05:07.
In the men’s marathon, Austria’s Michael Bidmon took the win with a time of 02:21:36. Iceland’s Arnar Pétursson finished second, while Silviu Stoica from Romania came third. Stoica had previously won the race in 2023.
In the women’s half marathon, Elín Edda Sigurðardóttir took the victory with a time of 01:23:38. Hildur Aðalsteinsdóttir finished second and Rannveig Oddsdóttir third.
In the men’s half marathon, Liam Tilton took the win with a time of 01:07:50. Davíð Freyr Magnússon finished second and Atli Jasonarson third.
In the women’s 10 km race, Íris Dóra Snorradóttir claimed victory with a time of 37:29. Katla Rut Róbertsdóttir Kluvers finished second and Sigþóra Brynja Kristjánsdóttir third.
In the men’s 10 km race, Baldvin Þór Magnússon took the win with a time of 32:13. Viktor Orri Pétursson finished second, while Youssef El Fahm from Morocco came third.
The fun run was also held, with runners able to choose between a 1.4 km and a 3 km course. Participants of all ages ran along a course filled with fantastical creatures, while a foam disco and musical performances added to the incredible atmosphere.
The Hlaupastyrkur fundraising campaign has now come to an end, raising a total of more than 306 million ISK, which is an incredible achievement. This means that total fundraising through Hlaupastyrkur has now surpassed 2 billion ISK since the campaign began in 2006. We would like to thank everyone who took part in the fundraising and supported these important causes.
