We’ve chosen to support Ljósið in recognition of the incredible care and comfort they’ve provided to our close family and friends. This challenge is dedicated to the memory of Martin Regal—a beloved father, brother, and uncle to members of our team. During his final months, Martin was supported by Ljósið, whose compassion and understanding made a profound difference to him and those around him. 

Martin moved to Reykjavík in 1977 and quickly fell in love with the people and culture. Over the years, he became well known in the community through his many jobs, including being Head of the English Department at Reykjavík University. Above all, he was a proud and loving father to eight children. He had a fantastic sense of humour, hugely positive outlook, and is greatly missed by us all.

We've named our team, “Smarty Pants", as this was one of our nicknames for Martin. This year’s Reykjavík Half Marathon takes place on 22nd August, coincidently commemorating the 9th year since Martin's passing. This makes this challenge even more important to us. By fundraising in his memory, we hope others can receive the same warmth and support from Ljósið that meant so much to our family.
